David is a contemporary artist, producing work in acrylics on canvas, paper and board as well as making woodblock prints, drawings, collages and mixed media images. His most recent work combines painting and relief sculpture using shaped wooden panels. His work is concerned with memory, myth and history. He is interested in the way different times occupy the same space and how we become aware of this through first-hand encounters, historical texts, maps, plans, drawings, diagrams and photographs. David has exhibited widely in the Midlands and North of England, mounting solo shows as well as contributing to group exhibitions. His work has been represented in RBSA exhibitions in Birmingham and at the Three Counties Exhibition at Keele University. He was awarded the “Schott Glass prize in the Staffordshire Open Exhibition in 2007 and he was one of the contributors to the Final MA show at the Birmingham Institute of Art and Design in September 2008. In 2006 he was awarded a bursary from Staffordshire Creative Network to visit Hangzhou in China to work with the printmaker Wang Chao in his “Purple Bamboo Studio” in the China Academy of Fine Arts. In September 2008 he completed an MA in Fine Art at the Birmingham City University School of Art, for which he received a Distinction.
